The Nutrition Analytical Service was created in 1998 as the commercial arm of the Lipid Nutrition Group at the Institute of Aquaculture. The NAS and Lipid Nutrition Group possess a wide range of analytical skills that provide advice and analysis to the aquafeed, fish farming and processing, agricultural and food producing sectors. The NAS also provides a service for the analysis of human and animal clinical samples, especially blood fatty acid analysis

The NAS complements existing commercial services within the Institute of Aquaculture including environmental and diagnostic analysis.

The Institute of Aquaculture was established in 1967 on the beautiful woodland campus of the University of Stirling situated near the village of Bridge of Allan in the foothills of the Ochils.

The Lipid Nutrition Group is internationally recognised as a centre of excellence for lipid research. The newly refurbished laboratories are equipped with modern HPLC, LC/MS, GC, GC/ mass spectrometry and GC/MS/MS equipment as well as state-of-the-art facilities for the automated extraction and purification of organic contaminants from complex matrices.
