Student visit to W & J Knox net factory
Last week as part of the MSc Advanced Engineering Module, students welcomed the opportunity to learn more about the manufacturer, rigging, treatment and maintenance of nets for fish farm cages at W & J Knox net from Finlay Oman (Sales Director) who gave a guided tour of the factory. Other visits scheduled during the two-week module are to Fusion Marine (cage manufacturer) and FPM Henderson Ltd. (Moorings). Students also had the chance to inspect a new recirculated aquaculture system at the Niall Bromage Freshwater Research Unit at Buckieburn designed by Luca Montorio. Guest lecturers have included Bob Bawden from Pisces Engineering Ltd and Trevor Meyer of Global Aquaculture Service.
