Prize-winning students reflect on their year at Stirling
26 Aug 2011
Students from 22 countries have successfully completed their Masters degree programmes this week. Here, some of our prize-winning students give their thoughts on their time in Stirling.

Diana Chee, from Singapore, is this year's Royal Highland Aqricultural Society Silver medal winner from the Masters in Aquatic Veterinary Studies. Diana comments: "‘Overall it’s been everything I’ve expected and more. The Institute had a big reputation which is why most of my year class wanted to come here. During the research project, the number of specialists within the Institute became really apparent and they were all really helpful. I really liked the modular system which really worked well - it allowed us to be self-directed. I also appreciated the way we were assessed, the range of methods used and the wide range of skills we’ve had an opportunity to learn. I’ve realised it’s not about retaining information but learning how to access it and use what you need".

Simon McQuoid Mason, from New Zealand, won this year's Royal Highland Aqricultural Society Silver medal from the Masters in Sustainable Aquaculture. Simon commented: "For me, when I first arrived at the Institute it immediately stuck me that it had such a wealth of knowledge among its lecturers and professors. I’d just completed a course by Distance Learning but the experience of being able to walk up and directly talk to the people whose work I had read was great." "The second important aspect of the last year was the links the Institute has all over the world and particularly with industry. It’s one thing learning the theory but it was an altogether different experience being able to do my research on a commercial cage site and interacting with producers and people in supporting industries - this massively benefitted me".
