Health Impact Assessment & Sustainability Impact Assessment

The Health and Environmental Impact Assessment (HEIA) and Sustainability Impact Assessment (SIA) use a combination of primary and secondary research to assess the direct and indirect impacts of tilapia culture using an AST system in the UK.  Our study scopes the frame and data needed for a manageable but also comprehensive EHIA of tilapia fish production, sale and consumption in the UK.

The main areas of research are public health implications of specific fish consumption, occupational fish farmer health, fish feed miles, marketing impacts and energy consequences of sustainable versus conventional fish production systems.  Public perceptions and awareness of the various health impacts of fish consumption and production were also explored in the consumer focus groups.
